Break a Weight Loss Plateau? How I Did It Against All Odds

Have you ever tried to break a weight loss plateau that was just impossible to break?

That was me, even though I used to be able to drop those excess pounds as soon as I stopped eating the Christmas crap. But here it was July, and here I was still pushing 150.

Well, at least I'm healthy, I thought. I pride myself in this because I hadn't been sick in the past three years. But then I got sick on the fourth of July, and that was my turning point.

You know, how the universe will sometimes just "talk" to you.. and tell you it's time for something new?

Then I started analyzing my habits. Well, it's true I did still like my low fat ice cream before bed.., but I was able to do that before... why not now?

There are some things that you just don't want to give up no matter what! No wonder I had so much trouble breaking weight loss plateau!

And, I remember I used to be religious about taking antioxidants, but I had fallen away from that. So that's what provoked me to go online and find out what I could start to do about this stubborn body of mine.

This is what I found out about why I couldn't break a weight loss plateau...

As it turns out, I wasn't eating enough protein. And, believe it or not, I also wasn't eating often enough! My habitual diet consisted of yogurt and fruit in the morning, nuts mid-morning, and a banana at lunch.

By dinner, of course, I was starving, so I often ate more than I should have without thinking. I don't do cooking, so those "lite" microwave meals were always what I picked... but they're nine tenths carbs! And the worst part is, they don't fill you up. So that "little snack" of low fat ice cream turned into a few trips to the freezer. It was time to be honest with myself.

The process to break a weight loss plateau...

So I decided to begin a 24 day plan that began with a 10-day cleanse. The cleanse was a little difficult at first; however, compared to most cleanses I've heard about, it was quite permissive, with allowable guacamole, peanut butter, nuts, and lean meats.

And, the thing that sticks in my mind most is I wasn't hungry. Not even through the cleanse. Between the fiber drink and all the protein snacks I was instructed to take, I actually wasn't hungry at all come time to shop for groceries after work.

But oh, wait till you hear about my challenges!

You'd think my husband didn't want me to break a weight loss plateau. It all came down at once, just as soon as I was determined to stick exactly to the plan.

First, they had to call and announce WITH GLEE that his mom just dropped by a butt load of cookies and junk food that she didn't want in her house. "And the cookies are your favorite" he says... and that was my first day on the cleanse. (LOL)

You'd think that would be enough, but then I went to the grocery to do my Friday night shopping for the week, all geared up to get myself a good spinach salad with olive oil, vinegar, and sunflower seeds.

So Joel puts in his "order" of what he wants me to pick up for him. Yeah, that's right, fried chicken!

My all-time favorite food that he NEVER wanted to eat before! But tonight, the first night of my cleanse, what did he want?

The cashier comforted me and said, "well, maybe he'll choke on a bone"!

Regardless of these challenges to break a weight loss plateau...

Actually, I wasn't even hungry when I went grocery shopping and picked up the chicken. I had to remind myself that, with my old habits and no help from the products I was taking, there would have been no controlling myself, as my usual path is to head for the deli when I first go shopping because I'm so starved!

My daughter who is a vegetarian kept laughing at me because the "cleanse" has so much meat in it... lean, of course, but lots of it. And, my favorites allowed even on the 10 day cleanse - organic peanut butter and toasted almonds!

I love how the almonds keep me so satisfied, and the peanut butter totally took away my urge for sweets.
And how much weight did I lose to break weight loss plateau?

A cleanse really started me off in the right direction, because I lost 5 pounds in the first three days! Of course, then I hit the plateau. But that stubborn scale finally moved down after a few more days, and I lost a total of nine pounds in 24 days - all with eating six times a day every day! This proves to me that eating the right foods more often is the secret to weight control.
